Welcome to Narva!

Narva's border position is one of the peculiarities of its past and present. Here, on the banks of a turbulent river, rapidly carrying its waters from Lake Peipus to the Baltic Sea, a historical boundary already ran in the Middle Ages. A boundary separating two civilizations: the Catholic European West and the Orthodox Slavic East. However, the border is not only a dividing line, but also a meeting place of mutual influence, interpenetration of two cultural worlds. In Narva, history has materialized in a rare, beautiful and dramatic, integral in its opposition architectural ensemble, the likes of which do not exist anywhere else in Europe. On two opposite banks of the river, in close proximity to each other (at a distance of an arrow's flight or a musket shot) rise two stone giants: the castle of the knights of the German order and the Russian Ivangorod fortress.

Along with the castle, the main attraction of the border town has always been the Narva bastions. For a long time, they kept their amazing history, the most mysterious secrets and fascinating legends behind the thick walls of the casemates. These powerful military structures could previously only be viewed from the outside, while the casemates remained inaccessible to the eyes of visitors. Now, the Victoria bastion is ready to reveal all its secrets and let everyone into its previously closed passages. The exhibition introducing the history of the bastions will tell not only about how the structures were built, but also how they were used at various stages of their centuries-old history. The Narva River Promenade, with a total length of about one kilometer, stretching along the bank of the Narva River from the port to the castle, has become one of the attractive places for outdoor recreation for both local residents and city guests. In any weather, you can see people walking, fishermen, and athletes on the promenade. The promenade is a great place for both family holidays and active leisure enthusiasts.

On the shores of the Gulf of Finland, just 14 kilometers from Narva, there is a small, cozy resort town of Narva-Jõesuu, which has been a favorite place of the St. Petersburg aristocracy since the beginning of the 19th century. Nowadays, sanatoriums, hotels, holiday homes and campsites provide accommodation for several thousand vacationers.

A wonderful balneological climate, pine forest, a vast beach with fine golden sand stretching for 13 kilometers, cool, clean water of the Baltic Sea - all this makes Narva-Jõesuu especially attractive to tourists.
